Tea Party South Texas Style – and the Case of the Missing Congressmen

U.S. Reps. Solomon Ortiz, Rubén Hinojosa and Henry Cuellar  had earlier decidednot to hold town hall meetings in their districts during the August recess.  This means that groups in the border area stretching from Laredo to Brownsville didn’t get a chance to discuss their concerns with their congressmen.

According to some reports, one reason for the decision was of fear of “violence.”  The most aggressive thing I noted in the demonstration was a really hungry mosquito and I don’t think the good congress-critters had that kind of violence in mind.

One congressman, Solomon Ortiz of Corpus Christi, wouldn’t meet with protesters but had no problem putting up pro-Obamacare “letters from constituents” on his website.

The McAllen Tea Party, a non-partisan but decidedly anti-Obamacare rallied at a busy intersection protesting the government’s intrusion into a lot of areas that members don’t think that they have any business being in including the so called “cap and trade” energy schemes, Obamacare, and the auto and financial industries.  The demonstration at a busy intersection as well as one at the Federal Building in McAllen did not seem to be disrupted by the presence of SEIU or any other groups supporting Obamacare.  In fact, I think the only injury was when I stepped into a small hole and twisted my knee a little.

Looking for violent protesters?  You won’t find them here.  Folk driving by got smiles, waves, and more than a few thumbs up from folk protesting Obamacare.

Even the kids got into the act and were mostly enjoying themselves taking part in Democracy.
