Palin Derangement Syndrome and Why the Left Hates [Updated] – Palin Resigns

Palin Deragement Syndrome is rapidly replacing the similar disease frequently associated with Pres. Bush.  While conservatives tend to understand some of the Left’s crazed hate of Gov. Palin, another explanation of Palin Derangment Syndrome comes from an unlikely source.

The Huffington Post:  Palin, Vanity Fair, Envy, and Hate, by Douglas MacKinnon

…I’ve been asking for months of my liberal friends: Why do so many on the left have such an unhinged hatred of this woman? Why do so many alleged feminists and female members of the mainstream media openly and gleefully despise Palin?

On any given day, like the regularity of the Sun rising or setting, you can expect Maureen Dowd of The New York Times to hurl even more insults at a woman she has relentlessly assailed for almost a year. Why? If — as Dowd and other attackers on the left maintain — Palin is inconsequential, ignorant, untalented, and part of the unwashed masses, why not just let her recede into history? Why the constant attacks?

As to why Vanity Fair and other liberal outlets go after her, the answer is quite simple: money. With uncounted thousands from the left who equally hate Palin, Vanity Fair and the other outlets understand — especially in a bad economy with declining circulation — that there is gold to be mined from the fragile minds of those who hate.

…Fine. I get that. But why Dowd and the feminists? With regard to The New York Times columnist, I asked a female friend of mine who happens to be a psychologist, what might prompt the anger? She mentioned a host of possibilities, but settled on one theory. That being that Dowd “may be threatened or envious of Palin… or both. As an aging but still attractive woman, Dowd may resent Palin’s good looks. Further, as a single woman of a certain age, she may be envious that Palin has a husband, a family, and has carved out an accomplished political career.”

With regard to why Purdum, David Letterman, and other liberal males continually go after Palin, the answer might be as easy as they secretly lust after her while also seeing her as the “girlfriend of the quarterback” they could never get in high school.

…In summary, we know that the left really, really, really hates Palin, that the left-wing media needs Palin to stay in business, that certain liberal female columnists may be envious of her, that certain liberal male reporters and talk-show hosts may lust after her, that the GOP is still populated with disloyal weasels who put self before all, and that Sarah Palin is still standing tall.  …

From my observations, the Left hates Gov. Plain, lies about her, and wants to destroy her because they fear her election potential, but that might be too logical.  Their hate is unlike the disgust that conservatives had for Clinton’s dinhonoring the Office of the Presidency and concern that Pres. Obama is terribly unqualified for his position and opposes traditional American values.  Unlike disgust and concern, the Left actually hates Gov. Plain, as they do all successful conservatives…and, if the conservatives are black or female, don’t expect help from Jesse Jackson or NOW.  Left wing groups, with support from the liberal media, even, disgustingly, consider the Governor’s family and children as fair game in their attacks…even if one child is a Downs baby.

It would be nice if the Left would rationally debate issues, but they cannot.  Strong emotions don’t allow room for rationality.  So, they try to hurt and destroy opponents instead.  It doesn’t matter if you’re a conservative president, a governor, a beauty pageant contestant, or simply a blogger, the Left hates and destroys people with conservative and traditional views because the Left knows that it cannot win with facts, honesty, logic, and, yes, moral values.

As has been pointed out in the article, the Left is also envious, whether it be envy of beauty or wealth envy.  And, the Left hates that, too — hates to admit it that it’s true.

[Update 1]  John Ziegler Exposes How Palin Derangement Syndrome Works

Although almost eight months have passed since last year’s elections, Palin Derangement Syndrome continues to manifest itself throughout America’s press.  As NewsBusters’ Mike Sargent reported Tuesday, Vanity Fair’s Todd Purdum is gravely afflicted with the illness, and needs to see a team of doctors quickly if he ever wants to be taken seriously by anyone other than the extreme Left.  With that in mind, Palin documentarian John Ziegler had a fascinating radio interview with Politico’s Mike Allen Wednesday that shed some light on how PDS works and why it’s so pernicious.

…And therein lies the heart of Palin Derangement Syndrome: making totally false statements about the Alaska governor without being able to back them up.  Sadly, as this is what most media outlets want — dirt about Palin irrespective of veracity — the mudslingers not only easily get away with it, but are revered for doing so.  ….

[Update 2]  Palin Quits as Alaska Governor

As commenter John Moore reported below, Gov. Palin and her staff were spending eighty-percent of their time fighting personal and political attacks, ethical complaints, and lawsuits, even though the charges eventually get dismissed.  It wasn’t worth it personally or for her family and it wasn’t fair to the citizens of Alaska.  That’s the Left for you and how they operate.

[Update 3]  Typical classless Democratic response to Palin resignation.

Either Sarah Palin is leaving the people of Alaska high and dry to pursue her long shot national political ambitions or she simply can’t handle the job now that her popularity has dimmed and oil revenues are down. Either way – her decision to abandon her post and the people of Alaska who elected her continues a pattern of bizarre behavior that more than anything else may explain the decision she made today.

Who needs it?

  1. Hatred can have many geneses. Palin-hatred might partake of several.

First, there’s Governor Palin’s exceedingly “conventional” home life, in which she’s happy and stable. Quite a lot of people will never know such a life. They envy it in the Ayn Rand sense: “hatred of the good for being the good.” The syndrome afflicts left-liberals disproportionately.

Then there’s Palin’s extraordinary beauty and grace. It’s been said, with some justice, that politics is celebrity for ugly people; there’s certainly quite a lot of ugliness on the Left. It’s also been said, by P. J. O’Rourke and Ann Coulter among others, that the beautiful women are the most reliable indicators of political trends — and the beautiful women are trending to the Right. That has to sting the vitriolic harpies on the Left.

Then there’s Palin’s political success. She busted every barrier the Alaskan Establishment set before her, pretty much without outside assistance. This is a “twofer:” first, because her political success owes nothing to the feminist movement, and second, because she’s a conservative Republican. That puts a spear into the Left’s notions that conservatives can’t abide a strong woman.

Then there’s Palin’s sincerity about her convictions. She walks it like she talks it: devoutly Christian; pro-life even at her own expense; utterly faithful to her husband despite their frequent protracted absences from one another; loving and supportive of all her children, including her soldier son and her unwed mother daughter; and incorruptible in the performance of her duties, where so many other pols would be setting themselves up to cash in after their time in office has ended (at least). Name a left-liberal pol who left office poorer than he went in; some of them even refrigerate their bribes.

Finally, but by no means least, she wears figure-flattering clothes, grooms herself beautifully, and walks gracefully and confidently in high heels. Most women on the Left resent having to shave their legs — some don’t bother — wear clothing that would look well on an alley-dwelling wino, and think high heels are a Republican plot.

A teenaged character in Jack Vance’s novel Araminta Station asks his father why a woman hates him and Dad so. Part of the answer is that “You are everything that her son is not.” I’d say that applies to Palin-hatred, as well.

Francis P., great comment. Thanks for sharing it.

  2. John Moore says:

Well, they finally got to her.

She just announced she will resign at the end of July because she was spending 80% of her time defending herself from baseless charges and attacks.

    • Woody says:

John, this is like what the liberals and Democrats did to Tom Delay and others…just keep attacking until they give up their public service, and then drop the matter. It has nothing to do with discussing issues openly but how well you can destroy a person’s life. I notice that slobbering Barney Frank never resigned when caught pimping gays from his house in Washington, D.C.

You may have already seen this, but just in case, here’s a good “what if” comparing reactions of liberals to what Obama does versus what would have happened if Bush did the same things.

What If George W. Bush had …

…made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent “Austrian language,” would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current on their income taxes, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to “Cinco de Cuatro” in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the Fifth of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?

If George W. Bush had misspelled the word advice would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potato as “proof” of what a dunce he is?

If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on “Earth Day”, would you have concluded he’s a hypocrite?

If George W. Bush’s administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually “get” what happened on 9-11?

If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how he is inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?

If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans, would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?

So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Can’t think of anything? Don’t worry. He’s done all this in 10 weeks — so you’ll have three years and nine-and-a-half months to come up with an answer.

Maybe Gov. Plain will be able to spend more time bringing the Republican Party back to its conservative base. Then, the Left can hate her for that, too.

  4. Mark Amagi says:

Great post Woody. I sent the “what if Bush had” on to several friends on both the left and the right. The left’s treatment of Palin was disgusting, and as a result, I always defended her, even though I didn’t think she was quite ready for prime time. (Of course, neither was Obama.) I hope her reasons for stepping down as gov are good ones, and not just because she has Presidential ambitions, because if the latter is the case, it will be used against her. Certainly, the heat was intense, perhaps more so than for any other political figure. I know I couldn’t handle it. Who would want to run in this environment?

One thing for sure, the left is driven by hate. They hate the rich, they hate the religious, they hate normal people, they hate from morning to night.
