To Burqa Or Not To Burqa …
… : that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The scarf and body bags of outrageous fundamentalist Islamic indoctrination,
Or to take arms against a sea of sharia law,
And by opposing end them?

Earlier this month Aayan Hirsi Ali had deplored that Obama’s speech let down moderate Muslims. She addressed the issue of the veil:
I think he was just appeasing the Muslim world because they perceive–they have these notions that Muslim women in Western countries–are not allowed to wear the headscarf or cover themselves. I mean you can wear whatever you want in the United States.
In Egypt where he spoke, women who do not wear their veil in public are subjected to very obscene remarks on the street and even sexual assault. Nowadays, even if they are covered they become victims of the same things: That is, in public, in Egypt, as a woman, you run 80% of the time the risk of being assaulted simply because you are a woman walking down the street. They are forced into marriages; their testimony in countries where Sharia is law is just half of that of a man. They can be divorced with no rights. They need guardians, a married guardian or they cannot sign any legal papers. The President simply did not address Sharia or Islamic law in relation to women.
Personally, and admittedly I am not a religious Muslim, if a man tried to make me wear one of those sacks, I’d slap him right into next Wednesday. What continues to appall me is the number of so called liberals and so called progressives that don’t stand up for the rights of women, female children and gay’s in the Islamic world, but then, I’m not a lib so what do I know?

This brought back a memory from the 2002 time frame. An Air Force fighter pilot, Lt. Colonel, Martha McSally, along with all the other service women assigned in Saudi Arabia, had to wear head to toe covering off base, not drive, and sit in the back seat of cars. She filed suit with Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld after trying to work through the chain of command didn’t work. She protested the unconstitutional requirement for US men and women to be treated so differently. There were no equivalent strictures for men to follow local custom, nor for State Dept. Women to adhere to this rule. From an article at
