E-Mail from Iran!

What follows is an actual email from within Iran.  I received this from a regular reader who requests that I not divulge the identity of the writer or the recipient.  This needs to be shared and GM’s Place is proud to be able to do so.

Email from Iran:
Hello Bxx,
Thank you! what a day! I can’t go to sleep, I am thinking about all those arrested.  We have been following the news all day.  We fear major crack downs and massacres.   There are reports of 3 deaths , many wounded and arrests.  Yet protesters, mostly young people are determined to continue it.  I saw many  cell phone type of video clips that show protesters have been clashing with government forces, with no arms, security  forces are some fully armed with clear marked uniform and many without uniform ( called unmarked outfit) yet armed with hand guns or clubs.    All people have to fight with is rocks or setting police cars, motorcycles  or tires in fire. The very good news is that the numbers of participants have been very large , filling up the largest boulevard in Tehran “Vali Asr” , unseen over the past 25 years or so. Resistance announced that about 85% of people boycotted the election and responded/voted  a big “No” to the entire regime, its policies, corruption and repression, announcing they are ready for continuing their non-stop pro-democracy resistance .    Very few people have voted, yet, even those voted, Moussavi and Karoubi’s supporters are says, the number of votes announced are less than their number of their volunteers helping during the campaign!   Like the number of Karoubi’s volunteers where claimed to be about 700,000,  yet  regime announced that Karoubi’s vote were only about 300,000!
A lot of people who voted for Moussavi are all let down and very angry , realizing this was all a show – they felt they are tricked.   They feel their vote is waisted.   many voting places did not have enough ballots.  Street protests seem to be growing , into an expression of  ”a national cause or honor”.   The slogans are very political and strong like “Iranians would rather die than accept this humiliation”. This shows a broader sector of the society- more intensified compare to the more common and  original one used in the past “Students/Teachers/Workers would  rather die than accept this humiliation” ,  across Tehran and many other major cities.   There seem to be some level of organization and orchestration, given the slogans, despite the fact cell phones are not working.  There has been a number of death and wounded.  There has been a number of video clips show the growing solidarity and camaraderie and collaboration among people – self organizing , even though all the cell phone /sms services are stopped for a couple of days. Many reports show direct confrontation , where police runs away from people throwing rocks, or  by setting tires , trash or motorcycles in fire.  Many people were coming to their rescue of those being beaten by police or captured to be taken away.  Many residents in neighboring streets and apartments have been leaving their doors open for people who are running away from the police and security forces.  This is so similar to the fever of revolution during the Shah’s fall.  there seem to be a high energy and expanding number of protests across Tehran and other cities .  The regime was supposedto count and announce the final result by end of day Saturday, yet they announce it almost a day earlier!   In some cases people in Mashad had serious clash with the police, overcoming them, take their guns and shooting in the air, feeling a sense of victory! which encouraged many others join them.
In Isfahan, the city were I was raised and my parents are now, there seem to be a major coordinated popular strike , shops closed and many joined the protesters all calling election results false.
Apparently Moussavi was told by Internal ministry, that he got the most vote, yet, don;t announce it until Satuday. yet, the word had got out and Moussavi has told his supporters to prepare for celebration, and all of a sudden regime announced Ahmadinejad got the most vote.
There are reports that Moussavi and some of his aids are all under house arrest.  Apparently, regime is planning to close the main streets in Tehran and major cities in preparation of AhmadiNejad celebrating his victory.  There are some reports that Larijani , head of the parliament, has congratulated (basically accepted)  the victory of AhmadiNejad and promising that they will crack down on opposition.   There are a lot of effort by the regime, to control and stop any report out, expel reporters , and just give an impression that shows the regime is strong and in charge. Those who are calling to live TV and radio shows constantly report on widespread protests, with the intention of forcing the regime to spreading its security forces to many locations so the protesters can out cnumber them . There are some reports that regime is importing militias from Hezbollah in Lebanon or Venezuela, who will be masked and can be a lot more brutal and don’t feel like attacking their own country men.
Regime is calling the protesters as people who are not necessarily supporters of any of the candidates, and calling people not to join them, and consider them criminal gangs hired by external forces and PMOI (regime generally refer to PMOI ”Monafegh” or “little groups” ).
With this event, regime clearly lacks legitimacy and very afraid of people’s uprisings and is determined to come down hard on them, by calling  like a semi military rule .
There are reports that a number of prominent leaders in Moussavi , like Mohamad Reza Khatami, brother of the previous president Khatami , who is also son-in law of Khomeini.
Iranian resistance are calling this a great opportunity for poular uprsing and move toward overthrowing the regime.  It is a major opportunity for people to unite against the regime and attack the government centers , expand their uprising, paving the way for “iran Liberation Army” .  The yare cllaing this election show as a means for Khamenei to get rid of his opponents, through an  ”internal surgery”.  Perhaps Rafsanjani is or going to resign, facilitating the process of  resolving the internal conflicts by becoming ”a single cohesive and strong faction” rule.  It seems like internal network of the iranian Opposition ( PMOI) is leveraging its already esablished network , and orchestrating the rallies. In one video , I saw bricks and rocks all piled up by side walks for people to easily pick them up.
I just feel bad they did not have any access to internet, and very little access to cell phone. I wish they had these compact in a backpack satellite access to internet.   Access to internet or mobile network can be so effective for them.
May God only enlighten us, offer guidance those seeking liberation from these fascists, as a great step toward  realizing democracy and freedom.
Thanks,
Axxxxxxxx

Wow. It was great to get this firsthand. The Iranian people are very brave- we can learn from them.

In 1967 a friend and I drove through Iran on a journey from London to Calcutta, our final destination Australia, our home. We found the Iranian people incredibly friendly and were welcomed and invited to their homes everywhere we went, and part of our trip was through the forests of north Iran. Our trip coincided with the coronation of the Shah and the people were celebrating, even in the smallest village. I’m so happy to know that the Iranian people are fighting that monster, Ahmadinejad, and wish them success. My thoughts and love are with them
