I think they were right to not jump to conclusions right after the shooting but within 24 hours it was clear what motivated the shooter. There was no "post traumatic stress disorder" that caused the shooter to go berserk. Hell, he'd never even been deployed, how could he have PTSD? It looks like the pollsters didn't frame the question correctly because I think you're right: it stands to reason that this case will be handled in a military court.
